Georgian Prime Minister summed up his recent visit to Azerbaijan at the session of the government today. Nika Gilauri said many serious issues were agreed with the partner country, but the agreement on creation a transit corridor was most important of them.

`The creation of a transit corridor, which has several sides, including Baku port and railway, is very important; however, there were some difficulties in negotiations with the private sector. This corridor will facilitate growth of cargo turnover and make new jobs and in complex, this will bring more incomes to the state budget,` Nika Gilauri said.

According to Nika Gilauri, the transport corridor Azerbaijan – Georgia will soon become a real rival to the Russian and Iranian transport corridors.

“We intend to attract additional cargo in this corridor. It is important that we have increased the competitiveness,” he said, stressing that it is necessary to improve efforts to attract more cargo from the Russian and Iranian transport corridors.

Gilauri said that during his recent visit to Baku, a working group on development of the Georgian-Azerbaijani transport corridor was created. Goods will be transported from Europe to Asia. This will coordinate the work of all the companies involved in this corridor.

“This is a very important project that requires more efforts to increase the attractiveness of our corridor. We will work on it with our Azerbaijani colleagues,” Gilauri said.
