International Court of Justice ruling on Kosovo independence is important to Armenia and NKR, confirming that acknowledgement of NKR independence doesn’t run counter to international law, the head of ARFD Hay Dat Bureau Kiro Manoyan stated.
As he pointed out at news conference in Yerevan, Artsakh independence was declared in accordance with international law, as well as USSR legislation.

Characterizing statements on Hague court ruling referring to Kosovo case only as a flaw of judgment, Kiro Manoyan urged to undertake specific steps towards international recognition of NKR independence, PanARMENIAN.Net informed.
Kiro Manoyan mentioned that Armenia will ease the NK independence recognition process by other states if recognizes its independence, Panorama.am reported.
“It’s not accurately said that Armenia didn’t recognize NK independence but it’s wrong to say we’ve done it de-jure,” he said adding it’s more that de-facto since we’ve inter-state agreements.
But, according the expert, it doesn’t necessarily mean Armenia should do it today or now. “Simply, that process should get under way,” expert explained.
Further he said that this chance should not be missed, i.e. the process of the recognition of Karabakh’s independence should be given an impetus, and the states should be persuaded that by recognizing Karabakh’s independence they do not run counter the international law, Tert.am informed.
“It is extremely important for us to use this chance and voice that the declaration of NKR’s independence is in line with SSSR and international law. We should always remind international political circles that Artsakh declared its independence when it was no longer part of Azerbaijan. And that separation tool place because the Soviet Azerbaijan had for decades implemented a biased policy towards Karabakh,” said Mr Manoyan.
