New charge is brought against Azerbaijani arrested human rights activist

The investigation brought a new charge against Azerbaijani arrested human rights activist Rasul Jafarov. Contact.az informs about this.

According to his lawyer Gunay Ismayilova, the new charges are as follows: forgery and misappropriation – Articles 313 and 179.3.2 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. On these charges he could be condemned to 12 years in prison.

The coordinator of the human rights campaign “Art for Democracy” Jafarov was arrested on 2 August on charges of illegal business, tax evasion and abuse of office. On 23 October deadline for his arrest was extended for another three months. Amnesty International recognized Jafarova “prisoner of conscience.”
