Merkel, Hollande, Poroshenko and Putin continued discussion on Ukrainian issue

Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel, President of the French Republic Francois Hollande and President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko. Kremlin official web-site informs about this.

The leaders continued exchanging views on settling the conflict in southeast Ukraine. They were satisfied to note that in recent days, the conflicting parties have generally observed the ceasefire.

The politicians felt the video conference held on December 19, with participation by representatives from Ukraine, the Donetsk and Lugansk regions as well as the OSCE and Russia, will be a positive contribution to the upcoming contact group meeting in Minsk.

The leaders stressed the paramount importance of maintaining the “silence regime,” achieving an agreement on the parties’ demarcation line, withdrawing heavy weapons, activating the prisoner exchange process and measures to normalise the socioeconomic situation and providing humanitarian assistance to residents in the affected regions.

The heads of the four nations agreed to remain in contact on matters pertaining to the Ukrainian crisis.
