Armenia’s Second Universal Periodic Review discussion at the UN

On January 22, during the 21st session of Working Group of the UN Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review, held in Geneva, Armenia’s Second Universal Periodic Review was discussed on the progress in human rights protection process and current issues in that area. Press and information department of the RA Foreign Ministry informs about this. 

Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Ashot Hovakimian headed the Armenian delegation.

Representative of Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, Ministry of Healthcare, Ministry of Education and Science, Attorney General, Police, State Migration Service and National Commission on Television and Radio were in the delegation.

The discussion of the Review took place in a constructive atmosphere. The head of the Armenian delegation presented the Report, the process of the implementation of commitments taken by Armenia in the field of human rights, i.e. legislative reforms and reforms already in practice, implemented and scheduled steps. Members of the delegation presented the situation regarding their spheres, implemented and scheduled activities.

During the discussion, the delegation of Armenia answered written and oral questions by the representatives of UN member-states, as well as touched upon issues raised in the presented Alternative Report.

Representatives of 71 states delivered speeches in the framework of Armenia’s UPR process. Recommendations by representatives of states and the adoption of the Report will follow.
Reference: First Universal Periodic Review discussion of UN HRC was held in 2010. The Report is presented every four and a half years.
