Pedro Agramunt new President of PACE

As reported the correspondent of Panorama.am Spanish MP, chairman of the European People’s Party (EPP) group Pedro Agramunt who is known for his pro-Azerbaijani stance has assumed the duties of PACE President.

P. Agramunt was one of the PACE MPs included in the report “Caviar Diplomacy: How Azerbaijan Silenced the Council of Europe”.

Pedro Agramunt who is also a co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan has been constantly criticized by human rights activists in Azerbaijan for his proximity to the Azerbaijani authorities and his attempts to cover up human rights violations in that country.

In 2013 European Stability Initiative called on Agramunt to quit as rapporteur for his systematic cover up of human rights abuses in Azerbaijan.

During the summer session of PACE, Agramunt backed Azerbaijan and did everything possible to include the term “occupation of Nagorno Karabakh’” in a report on Azerbaijani democratic institutions.

Fortunately, the attempts of Spanish MP failed.
