Orthodox and Catholic Church leaders finally to meet after  a-20-year interval

The meeting of His Holiness Kirill and Pope Francis is to take place in Cuba in February.

This was stated by the head of the Moscow Patriarchate Department for External Relations Metropolitan Hilarion Volokolamski, reports TASS.

For the first time His Holiness Kirill is going to make a pastoral visit to Latin America on February 11-12.

At the same time the Pope will be in Mexico.

The Metropolitan reported that the meeting of the leaders of the Catholic and Orthodox churches has been prepared for 20 years.

In particular, in 1996 and 97, intensive talks were held during the under the rule of the Patriarch Alexei 2nd, but they were stopped because of some disagreeable issues.
