Provisions in UN agreement may facilitate implementation of European investments

Piotr Switalski, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, stated at a discussion on a new stage of Armenia-EU negotiations, problems and prospects that Armenia has reached the starting point that opens up new opportunities both for being involved in the Eurasian integration projects and a member of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and for maintaining good-neighborly relations with the EU.

The agenda is positive and the sides are seeking to form new relations. He is happy about the developing political dialogue between the EU and Armenia. Last year, President of the European Council Donald Tusk visited Armenia, and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy (HR), is expected to visit the country, which will show the EU’s willingness to establish efficient cooperation with Armenia.

The EU spends a total of €50m in Armenian citizens’ interests. The EU is a major foreign trade partner and investor, supporting Armenia in stabilization and modernization, he said.
The Armenian side has stated the confidence crisis has been resolved.

Asked whether it is a fact, Mr Switalski said that the two sides’ statement on their willingness to complete the negotiations as soon as possible remains in force.

Despite some points, Mr Switalski hopes for completely agreed decisions.

The Armenia-EU framework agreement has to be considered in the context of expansion of the new EU neighborhood policy.

The cooperation priorities will be discussed, which is a politically binding document and will include the agenda of this cooperation.

The importance of a framework agreement is that it forms a solid basis for bilateral relations, specific steps as part of political dialogue and cooperation.
