Armenian citizens among arrested people  in Istanbul

The Armenian Foreign Ministry confirmed the information about the arrested Armenian citizens in Istanbul who are charged with the suspicion of attacking the family in Şişli district, the Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan told “Armenpress”.

“According to preliminary data, there are arrested Armenian citizens. Consular assistance opportunities are limited due to the absence of diplomatic relations,” said Tigran Balayan.

On February 6, in one of the houses of Şişli Cumhuriyet Street the Armenian 85-year-old Jacob Yakup Demirjii and 79-year-old Aida Demirji were assaulted.

The offenders tied up the couple with commonly known “swine chains”, taking valuables and money.

According to reports maid alerted about the incident who had come the couple’s home but no one opened the door.

As a result Mr. Demirjii was suffocated and his wife was hospitalized.

After the crime the Turkish Police launched an investigation to identify the offenders.

Law enforcement could identify their faces through the records of the cameras.

On February 10, the Trabzon prosecutor’s office announced that the attackers were Armenian citizens.

8 people are arrested including 5 women, all of them Armenian citizens. They are, Arthur A., Mr. E., Sergei B., Marianna E. Lida B., Marigold B., A. M., M. Christina.
