Press disclosures and new political reality

Much has been said about the causes of the weakening of the opposition.

These discussions have recently intensified, especially after the country’s President Serzh Sargsyan made his famous speech, where the main wave of criticism was directed not to the opposition but to the political figures who had reinforced their position in various branches of the government.

Armenian media is trying to find the main reasons that became the foundation of today’s reality.

Many theories have been thrown into the limelight.

The most interesting thing is that journalists are not ashamed of voicing baseless theses that are subject to ‘serous’ discussion.

These all are committed not to find solutions to the issues that exist in the country but to be a large-scale figure in the eyes of the readers.

Yesterday, one of the newspapers, analyzing authority-opposition relations, the reason of opposition’s weakening, noted that to this contributed the fact that Gagik Tsarukyan  played the game of being an authority on the platform of opposition.

As a ‘proof’, reference was made to the fact that the former leader of the party did not participate in the 2013 elections, and then, when the so-called “opposition trio” was the most active on the political platform,Tsarukyan left politics.

The auther tries to convince the readers that Tsarukyan’s mission was to neutralize the opposition.

Making such claims, the paper would be more fair not to consider the issue on manipulation platform, apparently in an attempt to discredit Gagik Tsarukyan, but to mention the facts that have caused the decline of the opposition.

The government did not have strong competitors at that time.

Armenia’s traditional ‘opposition’ was weakened so much that it was ready to run after any politician in the 2013 presidential elections.

Why should have the president sent Gagik Tsarukyan, such a strong individual, to the opposition ranks, I repeat there are practically no opposition ranks.

The Republic of Armenia is on its way of new developments.

This is a way in which there are clear rules of the game and previously reached agreements are actually maintained.

This is the reality of the current government, business and other public institutions and Tsarukyan himself.

Time will show what opposition is going to do. If the media continues to blame the people, who were their second chances, they will be back to the same point from where they started.

They need to adapt to new realities, engage in political activities and benefit by participating in the governance of the country. They are the ones to make decisions and choices.
