Hashim Thaci  elected Kosovo’s president

Deputies of the Parliament of the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo elected the 47-year-old Hashim Thaci, who served as Foreign Minister, the President of the country.

In the third phase of elections Hashim Thaci gained the simple majority of the votes.

Opposition MPs have repeatedly tried to disrupt the election process using tear gas in session hall.

Last time they used tear gas last Friday.

This was already a common phenomenon for the MPs as they quietly left the room and returned after aeration.

Opposition supporters have set up camp in the center of Pristina since Tuesday and are protesting.

They demand the government resign and parliament dissolve and a decision over new elections in March or April.
