Seyran Ohanyan rules out renewed war over Nagorno-Karabakh

Seyran Ohanyan, Minister of Defense said today that Armenia invests maximum efforts in reaching a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, regarding the issue a matter of sacred value for the entire nation.

“Armenia’s politico-military leadership seeks for a solution based on a peaceful dialogue, which should rely on confidence-building and mutual consent,” Seyran Ohanyan said at a meeting with heads and scholars at the National Academy of Sciences.

The minister said he regrets that Azerbaijan very often rejects the calls for a constructive dialogue and confidence-building, choosing instead to provoke continuing tension on the frontline.

In addition he said that the Ministry always stands ready to resist possible aggression, preparing itself for a war in its daily activities.

“What I see at the top of that preparedness is the activities of the Defense Ministry, its General Headquarters and adjunct bodies.

But the existing politico-military situation, and the regional and international developments do not herald the possibility of a large-scale war; we do all our best to restrain those ambitions through creating national and international guarantees.

But should the military operations [resume], we will have to unconditionally defend our fatherland,” he noted.
