Azerbaijani citizen fighting in Syria is arrested

An Azerbaijani citizen, who fought in Syria, has been arrested. According to Azerbaijani media, resident of Gabala region, 25-year-old Hasanov Ahmad Elkhan was arrested as a result of the operation conducted by law-enforcement forces.

It was found out that he illegally went to Syria and has been fighting under armed groups for 7 months.

Hasanov was arrested at airport when he returned to Baku.

He faced charges under the Criminal Code’s Article #279 (creation of an armed formations or groups, which are not provided by the legislation).
