E. Nalbandian participates in ceremony of MGIMO establishment anniversary

On October 13 Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian participated in the opening ceremony of the Second World Alumni Forum of Moscow Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) in the framework of the 70th anniversary of the University’s foundation. Press and information department of RA Foreign Ministry informs about this.  

Around 1200 graduates from 54 countries participated in the forum.

The ceremony was opened with the address of long-serving Rector of MGIMO, Academician Anatoli Torkunov. Foreign Ministers of Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian also delivered welcoming speeches.

Minister Nalbandian noted: “Much has changed since the day I entered MGIMO. It was more than 40 years ago. But something that has not changed for sure, is the fact that our University has been and continues to be one of the most prestigious and best universities in the area of international relations in the world. Our Institute is not just 40 years old, today we celebrate its 70th anniversary. During these seven decades MGIMO has prepared thousands of renowned diplomats, statesmen, politicians, scholars, businessmen and journalists. The talented professors of the University have done as much as possible to train a great number of professional diplomats representing different nations.”

Edward Nalbandian expressed his gratitude to the leadership of the University for educating high-level Armenian specialists which currently continue their work in the international arena also bringing their contribution to further enhancing Armenian-Russian friendship.

The Minister highly appreciated the intensive cooperation established between MGIMO and Diplomatic School at the MFA of Armenia.

Edward Nalbandian wished success to the work of the Second World Alumni Forum of MGIMO and offered to organize the next forum in Armenia underlining that it will be particularly symbolic as next year the 200th anniversary of Lazarian Seminary of Oriental Languages, which became one of the two founding institutions of MGIMO, also will be celebrated.

“Speaking to the current students MGIMO I am sure that our Institute has a future, which will be no less glorious than the passed route”- emphasized Edward Nalbandian.
