The European Union supports returned migrants to reintegrate in Armenia

The European Union Delegation to Armenia invites journalists to the Migration Resource Centre in Artashat, which was founded by “Support to Migration and Reintegration in Armenia” programme funded by the EU. “Publicis Hepta” company’s media department informs about this.

Meeting will take place on 20 January at 11:00 AM in the city of Artashat.

“Support to Migration and reintegration in Armenia” project funded by the EU was launched in January 2013. The project is implemented by the Armenian Representation of “People in Need” charitable organisation in cooperation with the Armenian Relief Society.

Total budget of the programme is 1.32 670 Euro, 80% of which is funded by the EU, and the rest is covered by “People in Need” Czech NGO. The duration of the programme is 30 months. The programme is carried out in four regions of Armenia – Armavir, Ararat, Vayots Dzor and Syunik. It includes measures aiming to prevent illegal migration and giving opportunity to the returned migrants to find their place in homeland. Counselling centres have been established in the southern regions of Armenia that provide comprehensive support to the potential migrants and repatriates.

About 150 returned migrants have been involved in training courses, in cooperation with the State Employment Agency, to learn how to write successful business ideas.

In total 155 beneficiaries took part in the training courses and got certificates. A call for business grants was announced for the returned migrants who would like to start entrepreneur activities in the regions of Ararat, Armavir, Vayots Dzor and Syunik.

As a result of the competition grants of 1.500.000 – 5.000.000 AMD were provided to the returned migrants to secure their employment and creation of new jobs. 75 Applications were submitted in the 4 target regions and in total 16 projects were approved.

During the meeting journalists will have an opportunity to meet the project beneficiaries who received the grants and now work in their own companies. The premiere of the “Starting point” film will take place at the end of the meeting. The film is about the 16 migrants who received the grants during the programme.
