The Closing Ceremony of the 6th Armenian Composers’ Art Festival took place

The Closing Ceremony of the 6th Armenian Composers’ Art Festival Edgar Hovhannisyan-Fest, dedicated to the 85th anniversary of the famous Armenian composer Edgar Hovhannisyan, took place on February 4, 2015 at the A.Spendiaryan National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. State Youth Orchestra of Armenia Media and Public Relations Office informs about this.

The project is traditionally held under the patronage of the RA President Serzh Sargsyan. It is organized by the initiative of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia and the Union of Composers of Armenia and supported by the RA Ministry of Culture.

During the concert evening the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia performed headed by the conductor Ruben Asatryan. The audience was presented both the pieces by Edgar Hovhannisyan, and the compositions by contemporary Armenian composers Vardan Achemyan, Karen Ananyan, Anna Hakobjanyan, Norayr Grigoryan.

Sergey Smbatyan, the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia mentioned that January of 2015 was quite eventful and remarkable for the collective. He highlighted the importance of the festival and noted, that the latter gives the Armenian composers an opportunity to feel how valuable their creations are for the young generation of performers and listeners.

“As a professionals we should reveal all the secrets of contemporary compositions, present them to the audience and only the time will judge how valuable they are. Performances of their pieces inspire the composers to create truly masterpieces,”- said Ruben Asatryan.

Tsovinar Movsisyan, the musicologist and PhD in Fine Arts noticed that thanks to the Youth Orchestra’s initiative all the connoisseurs of classical music are given an opportunity to pay tribute to the great person, patriot and brilliant composer Edgar Hovhannisyan.

During the evening the audience was presented the symphonic pieces by Edgar Hovhannisyan – the symphonic poem “Golgotha” (the last performance in Armenia – 13 years ago), the pieces from the suite “Marmar”, also the “Festival Overture” by Vardan Achemyan, “Three Waltzes” and “Sareri hovin mernem” by Karen Ananyan (soloist: Mary Mnjoyan/ vocal), the Song of impersonal for soprano, termenvox and string orchestra (soloists: Mane Galoyan / soprano and Satenik Hakobyan / termenvox) and the Symphony Exodus for orchestra and choir by Anna Hakobjanyan, the Symphonic poem “Sardarapat Battle” by Norayr Grigoryan. The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia performed jointly with the Youth Choir (choirmaster: Narine Davtyan).
