Armenian church reduced to ruins in Turkey

An Armenian church in Turkey’s northeast is under treasure hunter’s target.

It has been reduced to ruins because of a hole dug by treasure hunters.

St Astvatsatsin church of Erzincan (historical Armenian Yerznka) is left to the mercy of fate, the Turkish-Armenian publication Agos reports.

Recent studies revealed signs of collapse on the building’s second floor.

Efforts are conducted to protect the historical site.

The church has been under spotlight since the robbery of its icons five years ago, Tolga Gurun, a resident of the village said, calling attention to the problem.

Earlier reports suggested that the church would resume its original image after renovation.
No steps are taken to rebuild the church after the regional governor’s replacement.
