Holy Giragos church has not suffered any damage

Diyarbakir’s Armenian Holy Giragos church up to this point has not suffered any damage from the clashes between Turkish troops and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), says the head of the Giragos church Council Gafur Turkay.

“Currently the church rituals are not performed as there is still a ban on being on streets,” he noted, talking to “Armenpress.”

Referring to a number of Media reports on the intrusion of PKK militants to church premises, Turkay denied the report, adding that the church is not being used by PKK militants against Turkish troops.

“Church doors are currently close. Fortunately, the church has not suffered any damage yet and we hope it will not,” said Gafur Turkay.
