Possible decline in gas tariffs-Hovik Abrahamyan

Armenia’s Prime Minister said on Thursday that there is a possibility of decline in natural gas tariffs, citing geopolitical developments as a major contributory factor.

Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted the need of reducing the prices to an affordable level fpr both the population and the economy, in a speech at the cabinet meeting.

Abrahamyan said that the government has an interest to make the activities of Gazprom Armenia, the key natural gas infrastructure in the country, sustainable and reasonably profitable, agreeing that affordable tariffs not affecting the domestic products’ competitiveness is important for the businesses.

“I think that Gazprpom Armenia’s leadership has a quite a lot to do to make the business logic understandable to the society and its superiors. As a result, Russia will clearly see the mutual benefit in our negotiation offer. The volumes of the natural gas consumption demonstrate that the company can have more profit in case of lower prices.”
