We need funds to make Armenian-Iranian railway plan realistic-expert

An expert in Iranian Studies said today that Armenia has enough political will to get under way the railway project connecting the country with the Islamic Republic, stressing the need of attracting funds to make the plan realistic.

“I see that leaders in our government have a political will to initiate the railway’s construction, but the question is whether they will manage to attract funds,” Gohar Iskandaryan, a senior researcher at the National Academy’s Institute of Oriental Studies, told reporters.

She said that the Iranian authorities essentially stressed the fact that “Armenia is our friend whom we never forget”.

The expert described the lifting of the nuclear sanctions against Iran as a serious impetus paving the country’s way to the world politics and making it a serious regional factor.

“Iran and Armenia will be able to bring to life a number of projects that were frozen earlier for financial reasons,” she added.
