‘Sluggishness’ of Armenian policy is excused-political analyst

A political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan who heads the Caucasus Institute, said that compared to  the Russian-Turkish and Russian-Western tensions and economic problems in Azerbaijan, only Armenia maintains relative stability , which can not last long, given the impact of the realities around us. Accordingly, there is a need to carefully watch the developments, and keep on a high alert not to take drastic steps.

In this context, the political scientist said that Turkey is, in fact, directly involved in the war in Syria, in particular regarding the Turkish military operations in northern Syria.

Mr Iskandaryan said Turkey is trying to involve NATO in the Syrian crisis, linking it to the relations with the alliance.

As of the possibility of a military clash between Russia and Turkey, the analyst said there will be clashes in Syria and Iraq, but never a direct war.

“Erdogan has revealed his drastic measures, but it will not come out of the scope of the Syrian conflict.”

Asked about what kind of impact the worsening relations between Russia and Turkey will have on Armenia, Iskandaryan said the ‘sluggishness’ of the Armenian policy is excused. No direct threat from this escalation of relations poses to Armenia.
