Sex selective abortions negatively affect Armenia’s international reputation-EU envoy

Sex selective abortions undermine Armenia’s international reputation, raising at the same time serious demographic concerns, the EU ambassador said today, highlighting the decline in the population’s dynamics.

Piotr Switalski said he finds that Armenia is in the risk group with its low statistical records, speaking at the working meeting of a team of experts responsible for a project to ban the practice.

In his words, the problem, undermining the gender balance in the long run, is a challenge first of all to the society.

The ambassador said that European Union has allocated 750,000 Euros to the Armenian Government to assist in the modernization processes to contribute to a positive solution.

“We are committed to provide this assistance,” he added.
