Necessary to create public demand to recognize independence of Artsakh- Armenian politician

“Currently backstage work is being carried out, there is no clear and open negotiation process, but there is a period of doing the so-called homework, when each side in conflict makes efforts to achieve a new round of negotiations,” politician Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan described the current stage of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict at the meeting with journalists.

As of Russia, the politician noted that Russia is undertaking measures to tighten its influence on parties, being in conflict, through weapon trade as well as to intensify its policy in the South Caucasus through developing different formats of economic cooperation.

“It has already been announced that on March 10 president Serzh Sargsyan is to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict during his working visit to Moscow.

I think that Armenia and Russia share the same priorities on this conflict and two sides are interested in peace settlement of the issue,” he said.

Speaking of the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh’s independence, Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan noted that the Armenian community especially in the US is concentrated more on Genocide issues than on other issues.

“If the same 20-30% of the resources we spend on presenting the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in a right way I believe we will succeed.

A few days ago the US sixth state recognized Artsakh’s independence, it is such an interesting process which needs to be developed.

It is necessary to create a public demand to recognize the independence of Artsakh, which may be expressed on the level of state recognition,” the politician concluded.
