President Serzh Sargsyan meets with head of Greek Parliament Nikos Vutsis

President Serzh Sargsyan today met with the Greek Parliament’s President Nikos Vutsis in Athens.

Serzh Sargsyan and head of the Greek Parliament stressed the importance of strengthening the role of inter-parliamentary ties in expansion of relations and cooperation agenda.

Noting that the National Assembly of Armenia has established a tradition of friendly relations with the parliaments of many European countries, in this respect Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of re-formation of the Friendship Group with Armenia in the Hellenic Parliament.

The president highlighted the importance of the principled stances of the two countries’ parliaments on other sensitive matters.

In this context President Sargsyan expressed gratitude to Nikos Vutsis and Greek parliament for being among the first to recognize the Armenian Genocide and last year the Greek parliament passed a law criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide.

The President noted that the Armenian community and the Armenian traditional organizations in Greece have asked to convey their gratitude over this respect as well, reminding that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Greece.

The President highlighted the importance of Parliament Nikos Vutsis’s personal contribution to strengthening the parliamentary relations and noted that he expects continuous active steps aimed at tightening the Armenian-Greek friendly ties.
