Munich Security Conference on Syria is starting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will travel to Germany on Friday to take part in the 50th Munich Security Conference. “Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay a working visit to Germany on January 31-February 1 to take part in the 50th Munich Security Conference,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement available on its website on Thursday. Voice of Russia writes about this.

“Taking part in this conference, just as in the previous years, will be heads of state and government, foreign and defense ministers, parliamentarians, and prominent international policy experts. Russia traditionally takes part in the forum at a high level,” it said.

The conference participants plan to discuss ways to improve security of the Euro-Atlantic region, the crisis in Ukraine, the development of interrelations between Russia and EU and Russia and NATO, the regulation of cyberspace, the situation surrounding Syria and the Middle East on the whole, the Iranian nuclear program, the global financial downturn’s influence on global security and stability, energy security and other matters, it said.

“The main emphasis in Lavrov’s speech will be placed on outlining Russia’s approaches to the goal of setting up equal and indivisible security space without dividing lines in the Euro-Atlantic area through confidence building, mutual consideration of interests, and collective response to modern challenges and threats of transnational nature. As instability is growing around the world, special attention will be paid to the importance of ensuring the rule of law in international relations,” it said.

Lavrov plans to have a number of meetings with its foreign counterparts on the conference sidelines.
