R. Safrsatyan: “S. Sargsyan’s decision not to participate in the NATO summit is a serious political step”

“NATO summit in Chicago gave two important results to the regional developments”. Chairman of the NAS institute of oriental sciences Ruben Safrastyan announced about this during the meeting with the journalists today.

According to him first of all it was an opportunity for Georgia to join NATO and it was really an important decision. As it seems NATO is involved in South Caucasian issues deeper. “The second important fact is NATO final document involved a point about the peace settlement of the South Caucasian conflicts and only territorial integrity is noted as a principle”.

Commenting on Armenian President’s refusal to participate in the Chicago summit the expert noted that it was right and justified decision.

“Armenian President’s decision not to participate in the NATO summit is completely justified as this formulation by NATO opposites to the principles accepted by the OSCE MG. Helsinki act says that not-use of force, nations’ self-determination and territorial integrity are equal to wach other”. Safrastyan noted.

The speaker also underlined that he did not agree with the opinion according which this is step is an expression of the passive politics. According to the expert it is a serious political step.
