The EU supports Armenia in creating equal opportunities for national minorities’ cultural rights

The EU Delegation to Armenia invites journalists to take part in a presentation event of the EU funded project “Equal opportunities for implementation of cultural rights for national minorities and vulnerable groups: wealth through diversity”.

The meeting will take place on Friday, 24 October at the cultural centre of Metsamor, which has been fully equipped within the framework of the project.

The project was implemented in ten regions of Armenia depending on the number of national minorities living there. It aims at ensuring cultural diversity and support preserving the culture of national minorities through raising capacity of local administration bodies, organisations and cultural institutions in Armenia and Ukraine.

During the implementation of the project 20 communities have been selected in Armenia and Ukraine, active community groups have been formed, capacity raising training courses have been organised and programmes for cultural development have been devised.

Additionally, a grant competition was announced for the implementation of the project in Armenia and Kiev region. The grant competition was aimed at supporting Armenia and Kiev region in issues concerning local non-trade organisations’ cultural initiatives. In total 10 grant projects were funded with a minimum of 500 000 and maximum of 2 500 000 AMD.

The project has been implemented with the financial support of the EU. It was launched in February 2012 and will end in December 2014.
