Compensation process can be pushed forward despite recognition of Genocide by Turkey- lawyer

The fourth session of the three-day scientific conference “Armenians at the end of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide” organized in the city of Duisburg, entitled “Genocide and the claims, specification and clarification in the politico-legal field” was held by Dr. Raffi Bedikyan and Ervand Khosrovyan, where French-Armenian lawyers successively took the floor as well.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the informational department of Armenians of Europe, the co-chairman of the Armenian Bar Association in France, lawyer Verzhineh Tyushen has also made a speech on the theme”Armenian claims on international law”.

He initially has referred to the work of the Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France, then spoke about opportunities of raising the Armenian issue in the international courts and about difficulties and barriers they face in this field.

Then the former president of the International Federation for Human Rights (F.I.D.H.), a lawyer, a specialist in international law, Raffi Qalfayan took the floor on the theme “Genocide compensation, legal basis, measures and challenges”.

He gave the details on the existing international compensation methods, means, conditions and opportunities.

The lawyer explained that the compensation process can be pushed forward despite the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by Turkey.

He noted that this process requires caution, prudence and complete Armenia-Diaspora cooperation.

At the end of the two reports legal bases and possibilities of the issues of properties, land claims and financial compensation were under consideration.
