D. Lidington: ”Great Britain considers Armenia as long-term and valuable counterpart”

On September 18 Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian hosted the Minister for Europe of Great Britain David Lidington. Press and information department of the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs about this.

Welcoming the guest Mr. Minister said: ”This year we mark the 20th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Armenia and Great Britain. We can announce the cooperation between the sides is on the strong ground.”

Minister Lidington thanked for the acceptance and underlined that Great Britain considers Armenia as long-term and valuable counterpart and his visit aimed to give a new stimulus to those relations.

During the negotiations the Ministers discussed the ways of deepening relations on political, trade-economic, scientific, cultural and other spheres. Ed. Nalbandian noted that the delegation of the Minister Lidington include businessmen which give new opportunities for the economic cooperation. Lidington underline din this context that a great group of the businessmen would visit Armenia in near future.

The sides also rated the programs by Great Britain which are directed to the development of the various spheres in Armenia.
Armenia-EU cooperation was one of the main directions of the negotiations.

Some regional and international issues were touched upon as well. NK issue was under special consideration. Hungarian-Azerbaijani deal and Safarov’s extradition was also on agenda. Lidington noted that Great Britain assisted the efforts by the OSCE MG co-chairs to settle the NK issue. He also underlined that GB shared the opinion of the EU, EP and OSCE MG on Safarov’s extradition.
