Memory of Sumgait victims was commemorated in various cities

On February 26 victims of massacres in Sumgayit were commemorated in Bucharest Michale and Gabriel St. Angels Church. As press and information department of the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs after the holy mass garlands were put at the monument-cross stone devoted to the memory of the victims.  

After the ceremony documental film “Sumgait” was presented. Armenian Ambassador to Romania Hamlet Gasparyan, Senator Varujean Voskanyan and clergymen Tatev Hakobyan delivered short speeches.

The speaker of the meeting Romanian-Armenian writer and publicist Petros Khorasanjyan reminded the presents about the Armenian massacres which took place in Azerbaijani Sumgait town. He presented the historical-political situation of that time and also spoke about the further developments of the event.

On February 28 holy mass was served at St. Saver Armenian Church in Batum. Holy mass was dedicated to the memory of victims of Sumgait massacres. Representatives of Armenian Community in Ajaria, workers of the Armenian main consular in Batum, teachers and pupils of the Batum Armenian schools attended the ceremony.

After the mass the participants put garlands at the cross-stone at the church’s yard. The speakers underlined that the ignorance of such crimes causes new crimes against humanity.

On the same day a documental film about Sumgait was presented. The events were broadcasted by Ajaria TV and TV 25 channels.
