S. Lavrov: “Russia highly assesses the established allied relations with Armenia”

On April 2 a meeting was held between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Russia Edward Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov, who arrived inYerevanon an official visit. Press and information department of the office of Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs informs about this.

Welcoming the guest, Edward Nalbandian underlined that the two countries celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations under the circumstances of an active and regular high-level political dialogue, increasing economic cooperation, expanding inter-parliamentary, decentralized, scientific and educational and cultural interaction, as well as the existence of a solid legal framework, which are specific for the allied relations and serve as a good basis for the further strengthening and development of the relations. 

Expressing gratitude for the invitation to visitYerevanand the warm reception, Sergey Lavrov mentioned thatRussiahighly assesses the established allied relations withArmeniaand the interaction in international arenas and is interested to continue the comprehensive development of the cooperation in various spheres. 

Edward Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov had a thorough talk on the cooperation in political, military, trade and economic and humanitarian spheres of the dynamically developing relations betweenArmeniaandRussia. 

During the meeting, the works being implemented in the frames of the Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation were touched upon. 

The Ministers expressed satisfaction with the development of the inter-parliamentary ties, in the frames of which they highly commended the work of the Inter-parliamentary commission of the RA National Assembly and RF Federal Assembly. 

Edward Nalbandian and Sergey Lavrov touched upon the decentralized cooperation between the two countries, and discussed the preparatory works of the upcoming second Armenian-Russian inter-regional forum to be held in autumn of this year, as well.  

In the course of the meeting, the Ministers exchanged views on the coordination of the positions within the international organizations, as well as on the issues related to support each other’s candidates. 

Ministers Nalbandian and Lavrov had a thorough talk on the settlement process of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue in the frames of the OSCE Minsk Group. In this context the Armenian Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed gratitude forRussia’s continuing efforts as a Co-Chair of the Minsk Group. 

The developments unrolling in theMiddle Eastwere on the agenda of the talks, as well. In this regard, the necessity to stop violations and resolve issues through the negotiations was mutually stressed. 

After the meeting, the signing ceremony of the joint statement of the Foreign Ministers of the two countries on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the relations between the Republic of Armenia and Russian Federation and the stamp redemption ceremony devoted to the the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the relations between Armenia and Russia was held. 

Afterwards, a joint press conference of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Russia took place.
