Armenian chess-players show good results at various championships

As armchess.am informs Armenian chess-players participate in a range of championships and have good results.

So, according to the source Armenian GM Krikor-Sevag Mekhitarian scored 6 points out of 7 and took the first prize at the 2nd Brazil Open that was held in Fortaleza. The same results showed GMs Cubas (Paraguay), Vescovi and El Debs (Brazil) but they were behind the Armenian chess player on tie-break. 

Another Armenian sportsman IM Andranik Matikozian (Armenia) scored 7,5 points out of 9 and took the first prize at the 17th Metropolitan Tournament that was held with the round robin system in Los Angeles, USA. The same results showed Yankovsky (Russia) but he was behind the Armenian chess player on tie-break. 

Armenian GM Vigen Mirumian (Czech Republic) scored 6,5 points out of 9 and took the 9th place at the open that was held in Norderstedt, Germany.

Armenian GM Varuzhan Akobian (USA) scored 6,5 points out of 9 and took the second prize at the open that was held in Philadelphia. He was only half a point behind the winner – GM Magesh Panchanathan (India). 

GM Sergei Movsesian and ten other Armenian chess players are taking part in Russian Team Chess Championship that is being held in Loo on April 9-15, 2012. Movsesian plays as a member of St. Petersburg Club. Desnogorsk’s Atom Team is almost entirely composed of Armenian chess players: 5 of its 6 main members are Armenians (FM Pogos Nakhapetiane, IM Beniamin Galstian, Vardges Tovmasian, Sargis Manukyan, Georgy Pogosian).
