PACE delegation is in Armenia for pre-electoral observations

A three-member delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), led by Baroness Nicholson (United Kingdom, ALDE), carry out a pre-electoral mission to Yerevan on 11-12 April 2012, ahead of the parliamentary elections in Armenia on 6 May 2012, to assess the electoral framework and campaign. The delegation is scheduled to meet the President of the Republic Serzh Sargsyan, the President of the National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan and the Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian as well as leaders of the political parties running in the elections.

Talks are also scheduled with the Armenian delegation to the PACE, the Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission Tigran Mukuchyan and with representatives of the diplomatic corps, civil society and the media.

A full 28-member delegation from the Assembly will return to the country to observe the voting before making a final assessment.

PACE delegation will have a press conference on Thursday 12 April at the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan (Erebuni Plaza Business Center, 6th floor, 26/1 V. Sargsyan Street).

Members of the delegation are Baroness Nicholson (United Kingdom, ALDE), head of the delegation,Piotr Wach (Poland, EPP/CD) and Joe Benton (United Kingdom, SOC).
