Saakashvili and Aliyev discussed David Gareji monastery issue

David Gareji monastery complex became a topic of dispute between Georgia and Azerbaijani recently. Media discussed it during the last days intensively and the MFAs of states announced the topic will be discussed during the meeting of Georgian and Azerbaijani Presidents.

Mikhail Saakashvili and Ilham Aliyev met in frame of the NATO summit in Chicago, “Online Georgia” writes referring to the Georgian Minister if Foreign Affairs Grigol Vashadze.

According to the source two Presidents touched to the theme among other issues of bilateral interest.

“I would like to note that this problem is not new one and has existed since the communistic regime. I don’t know, consciously or unconsciously, they mark the administrative border in such a way that 2% of the complex remained in Azerbaijan. The President will hold a meeting of Azerbaijan-Georgia delimitation and demarcation commission and task to work in medium security on this issue”, he informed.
