Stepanakert will soon have opera theatre

Leader of the opera preparation department of the Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas, professor Hovhannes Hovhannisyan and leader of the conductors’ department of the Conservatory, conductor, professor Hovhannes Mirzoyan met journalists today. They announced during the press-conference that opera theatre will be established in Artsakh, Stepanakert, soon. According to the speakers they launched this initiative with assistance of the Artsakh Ministry of Culture.

H. Hovhannisyan noted that the idea existed since 2000. They performed opera performances in the Stepanakert Square in 2000 and they were amazed with the interest which Artsakh residents showed towards the performance. Then they again staged some performance in other scenes but the latter were not appropriate for the operas.

Conservatory professor also informed that the opera theatre will be in the current Drama theatre’s building which needs to be restored. The scene will give opportunity to present opera performances and also to play some studio works.

Another speaker of the press-conference Hovhannes Mirzoyan considers that there is lack of cadres. But as he added if there is wish the professionals can be sent to get education abroad.

“Artsakh gives not only great Generals but also perfect artists. They must have opportunity to express themselves”.

According to Hovhannes Hovhannisyan the constructions of the building are not started yet but the project already exists and the sponsor is also found.

“I think we will manage in 1-2 years. The building will be ready in 2.5 years”, the professor is sure.

The speakers also informed that they were going to organize open-air performances before it.
