Chairman of the “Armenia” All Armenian Fund branch in Brazil Oshin Levon Mosdichyan and the representatives of Armenian Community in San Paulo Michael Janyan and Eduardo Mekbekyan met journalists today and spoke about Armenian community in Brazil, its history and its problems. As they informed there are nearly 30.000 Armenians in Brazil and the forth generation is growing up there now.
“First Armenian went to Brazil on 1870s and the biggest group arrived in Brazil on 1926. These people were those Armenians who managed to survive from the Armenian Genocide and found shelter in Syria on 1915. Then they left for Brazil”, Levon Mosdichyan noted and added that Armenian Church, various organizations and school exist in San Paulo.
The speaker said that Armenians in Brazil unfortunately do not know Armenian well. They mainly speak in Portuguese but they try to be informed about the events which are going in Armenia.
“Armenian Community in Brazil has always assisted in development of Armenia. First they assisted Armenia on 1988, during the Spitak earthquake”.
According to Mosdichyan in frame of the “Armenia” All Armenians Fund Armenians from Brazil took part in restorations of Artsakh roads and some other programs as well.
Two representatives of the Armenian Community in Brazil underlined that the community do not know Armenian and it is the main problem.
They underlined that Armenians know Portuguese a little and they do not provide information which is available for the Armenians living in Brazil. So the bilateral communication is not effective.
