Orphanage to become shopping mall in Urfa

The orphanage of  the children orphaned during the Armenian Genocide to become a shopping mall.
The building was handed to the Ministry of Tourism, later to special provincial administration department to become a museum.
The museum, however, has not been established.

In 2006, one of Turkey’s largest holdings proposed a project to turn it into a 5-star hotel, which was never finalized. Now the government wants the former orphanage to turn into a trade center, reports “Evrensel” newspaper website.
The source also states that Urfa’s residents’ 50 % were Christians in the 1950s, but Christians’ traces were eliminated as a result of the Turkish policy.
