Tribune de Genève-Western ‘paradoxical’ requirements from Ukraine

The French and German Foreign Ministries made an official visit to Kiev to try to restart the Donbass peace process and encourage the Kiev authorities to make the necessary reforms.

However, along with this, the situation has become rather “paradoxical”.

On the one hand, the West demands Ukraine to fight against corruption, on the other hand it wants Arseniy Yatsenyuk to continue to be the head of the government, despite the corruption allegations addressed to him.

“We managed to do quite a lot.

But today there is an acute need for a stable government, which will continue to implement improvements in Ukraine.

Maidan’s spirit should win”, said the French Foreign Ministry Jean-Marc Eron.

This persistent calls taking place in Ukraine, precipitated the anxiety of France, Germany and all over the West who have made major investments in post-revolutionary Ukraine, giving him 40 billion dollars for the aid over the past 4 years.

And, now, this aid program is under a threat because of the major political crisis, which broke out around the Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and his opposition.

If the Europeans want Yatsenyuk to remain in power, they must understand that the Prime Minister receives bribes from powerful oligarchs and slows down the reform process.

At the same time the German Foreign Minister Steinmeir calls on not to tolerate the corruption.

And here, there is the paradox as Yatsenyuk himself personally manages the system of corruption in Ukraine,” said the Ukrainian Rada deputy Mustafa Naieme.
