May 9 celebrations took place in Stepanakert

On May 9 Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan and President Serzh Sarkisyan of the Republic of Armenia partook in festive events organized in Stepanakert and Shoushi in connection with the Victory holiday, the day of the Artsakh Republic Defense Army and the 21st anniversary of the liberation of Shoushi. Central Information Department of the Office of the Artsakh Republic President informs about this.

In the Stepanakert Memorial Complex Presidents of the two Armenian States laid garland and flowers to the monument immortalizing the memory of martyrs perished in the Second World War and Artsakh liberation struggle.

Thereupon the Presidents visited the town of Shoushi where they laid garlands and flowers to the pedestal of the “Tank” monument and to the monument of Vazgen Sargsyan. They were present at the opening of the museum of Fine Arts in Shoushi too.

On the same day the Presidents partook in a solemn ceremony dedicated to the opening of the newly constructed building of the Union of Freedom Fighters of Artsakh in Stepanakert.

In his speech the Head of the State noted that it would put a new impetus to the Union’s activities and would greatly contribute to successful and effective organization of its work. Bako Sahakyan underlined that the authorities of the republic would continue to carry out large-scale projects aimed at the improvement of the freedom fighters’ social and housing conditions and constant rise of the Defense Army combat readiness level and its military power.

NKR second President Arkady Ghoukasyan, Primate of Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan, National Assembly speaker Ashot Ghulyan, premier Ara Haroutunyan, RA and NKR officials, guests from the Diaspora and abroad partook at the festive events.
