Azerbaijan stops broadcasting foreign TV series, including Turkish ones

Azerbaijani Television and Radio Council commented on the reports that showing of Turkish TV series will not be stopped in the country from May 1. Azerbaijani Press Agency informs about this.

Chairman of the Council Nushiravan Maharramli told APA that the ban of the National Television and Radio Council concerns only foreign TV series.

“We have not banned foreign feature films. For example, “Chalikushu” (The Wren) produced inTurkeyis not TV series, it is feature film. “Seventeen Moments of Spring” is feature film. The ban is not applied to them. Of course, TV channels can dub feature films and show them. But TV channels must approach dubbing more attentively and increase its quality,” he said.

Chairman of the National Television and Radio Council said from May 1, showing of foreign, including Turkish series will be stopped in the country. It is not right to create any other opinion about it. We strictly condemn it. We held regular meetings with TV channels regarding the foreign TV series last year. This issue has been discussed for more than a year. The TV channels should have been ready for it. TV channels bear responsibility before the society. One of these responsibilities is to provide the Azerbaijani audience with the films made inAzerbaijan. They should not restrict their activity to showing foreign films,” he said.
