J. Haffern: “Political will is needed during the elections in Armenia”

The knowledge level of the members of the Local Electoral Committees is very important for the elections. But the political will by the legal and state organizations and by the political parties is more important. US Ambassador to Armenia John Haffern announced about this on May 2 during the briefing with the journalists. As the Ambassador added they tried to be optimistic.

“We have seen the expression of the political will on the last days in Armenia. Political figures expressed it and we expect the same in the coming elections”, Haffern noted. He informed that they have seen good developments. Mr. Ambassador especially underlined the order by the Chief Prosecutor about the electoral bribes and the round-table discussions by the Armenian Police on the coming works.

US Ambassador underlined that besides the members of the electoral committees some other local and international observers will also follow the process of the elections. Haffern rated this fact and underlined that despite of good developments some dissatisfaction also existed. “For example we have heard dissatisfaction about not objective and not equal treatment towards the participations in meetings, about the use of administrative resources and so on”, he said and underlined once more that the positive developments really existed.
