Armenia’s permanent envoy to the UN, Mnatsakanyan was elected President of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS

On 11 January, Armenian permanent envoy to the UN, ambassador Zohrab Mnatsakanyan was elected President of the Executive Board of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS for a one-year term.
The Executive Board consists of representatives of Member States and is commanded by the UN General Assembly to provide a inter-governmental assistance and general supervision of the function of UNDP, UNFPA and UNOPS. The Board foregathers 3 times a year in order to guarantee that the three Agencies continue to be responsive to the needs of programme countries.
“ 2016 will be crucial for our Board and sister-agencies as the new set of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) was adopted recently. The year will also be vital in terms of the mid-term review of the strategic plans for 2014-2017, as well as the prospective discussions of the new cycle of Quadrennial Comprehensive Policy Review which remains the basic political mechanism for member states to evaluate the effectiveness, efficiency, coherence and the influence of the UN development system’s support to national development endeavor” – mentions Ambassador Mnatsakanyan in his acceptance remarks.
