‘US should take more refugees’, Bill Gates considers

The billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates takes the view that the US “should set a better example” by taking more refugees to the country, the BBC reports.

He believes that his homeland has the capacity to follow the examples of Germany and Sweden, who are “to be congratulated”.

He points out that the issue is strictly political and that “the total number of refugees is not a world record”.

The runner of the largest charitable foundation in the world believes that economic development will bring the tide of migration to a halt.

He cited Ethiopia, which used to be a source of refugees, but has now taken in “more than any other African country”.

As for those fleeing conflict zones, Mr. Gates said the priority should be to get medicines such as cholera vaccines into refugee camps, and to help children living in them continue their education.
