Sassounian offers to put issues such as Artsakh independence, border opening in front of US presidential hopefuls

It is high time for Americans to adopt a new strategy for raising issues of national importance.
This is the standpoint of Harut Sassounian, the publisher and editor of ‘California Courier’, expressed in an interview with “Armenpress.”

American publicist said that for decades  Armenians have met presidential hopefuls, asking them to promise that if they became presidents, they would recognize the Armenian Genocide.

But the results are inefficient. Leaders forget their promises under the pressure.

“Not only the issue of the Genocide should be raised. The US Congress has passed it several times and the president has signed below it.

We have a lot of questions both as Armenians and Americans.

The key issues are to be set in front of the presidential hopefuls such as the issue on Nagorno-Karabakh independence, opening the border with Turkey.

Why not raise the issue over the American financial aid allocated to Armenia and Artsakh,” noted Sassounian.

Referring to one of his recent articles, publicist noted that at the stage of the US presidential elections, Armenians should not stand next to one of the presidential hopefuls, but to wait for the intensification of the campaign.

“We should wait for the campaign to become hotter, as when the votes of the presidential hopefuls are closer, they will be more inclined to make offers to us.

If we approach them, we will be the ones to ask, to beg, they will give a word, meantime doing nothing but if they see that the American Armenians’ votes will play a decisive role, they will approach us,” noted Sassounian.
