NATO official considers that conflicts in the South Caucasus region create instable situation in the region and beyond it

NATO Headquarters representative Steffen Elgersma is in Baku to participate in the conference. As Azerbaijani Press Agency informs during the conference he spoke about the South Caucasus and the prolonged conflicts in the region.

“The South Caucasian countries are very important for NATO. The alliance attaches very significant importance to the relations with Azerbaijan, these relations have been developing in right direction for 20 years”, he said.

According to the NATO official the existence of protracted conflicts in the South Caucasus region creates instable situation in the region and beyond it: “Besides, the region is important from the point of view of its neighborhood with Iran. NATO is an important part of European security architecture. We are interested in observance of principle of maintaining peace and stability in OSCE area”. 

Further he touched upon other issues as well during the conference.
