US confirms Americans kidnapped in Baghdad
The US embassy in Baghdad confirmed several Americans are kidnapped there.
“ We are working with the Iraqi authorities to spot and recover the individuals,” stated a department state official.
Three Americans and an Iraqi translator were captured on the southern side of Baghdad.
But it’s not clear how many were hold or where they were captured.
An officials reported three people went missing on Friday.
“A company reported three of its people went missing two days ago. They are American contractors,” senior security official reported.
“Our highest priority is the security and safety of American citizens abroad,” claimed US state department official John Kirby.
An attack on a Baghdad shopping center last week, linked to Islamic State militants, increased the violence as there were no major bloodshed in the city in months.
The fate of those kidnapped remains unknown-demonstrating how secretive and complicated the negotiation process is.
