Iranian MFA: Syria should decide its own destiny
Foreign Minister of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi announced on January 9 that the Syrian people should decide for their own destiny with no prescription from a foreign country. Iranian IRNA writes about this.
Speaking to reporters at the airport upon his arrival in the Egyptian capital, Salehi said Iran was not to interfere in the internal affairs of Syria.
However, he added, as friends to Damascus, Iran should help prevent occurring unpleasent events in the region.
Referring to the three-point plan of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to sovle the country's political crisis, Salehi said more plans have already been made by the Arab League, UN special envoy Kofi Annan, Geneva meeting, Turkey and Iran.
However, he added, "What is important is to find common points of all these plans in order to close the ranks and facilitate reaching a solution which would solve the Syrian crisis in a Syrain way."
The Iranian forein minister further stressed that resolvoing the Syrian crisis woould bring peace and stability to the entire region too.
